Goosebumps | The Nightmare Nationwide

THE ASK

Create a viral and shareable social content piece featuring the iconic character Slappy from the new Goosebumps series on Disney+.

INSIGHT

Tapping into the augmented 3D out-of-home trend, we decided to leverage the digital puppet of Slappy to reintroduce this iconic character to online audiences and created ‘The Nightmare Nationwide.’

Execution

Leaning into the Goosebumps brand we created two UGC-feeling moments to thrill and excite new fans and old. For both Statue of Liberty and Hollywood sign Slappy takeovers, we used real-world shot footage of both monuments as our base plate for our CGI enhanced videos. We then took the 3D model of Slappy, animated him and dropped him into each scene using state-of-the-art 3D-tracking and masking software. To really sell the illusion we had to match the environment lighting of each scene onto the 3D model, added additional lighting elements (like helicopter spotlights) and finally, layered in sound FX like Slappy’s creepy creaking neck on top of helicopter chatter for NYC or the panicked breath of a hiker filming the Hollywood Sign. The end product was a video convincing enough to make people pause and think, “wait, is this real!?” Total Impressions: 1,477,700.00
